Impress Your Guests with Blue Butterfly Pea Flower Tea or Blue Chai

Welcome back!

I am so excited about this drink, I could not keep the excitement under my hat!  This drink is amazing in both its numerous health benefits as well as its uniqueness in colour, and it’s fast becoming the next big tea.  It is fast gaining popularity across the globe as a reputable, caffeine-free  health tea, a social drink and a food dye!   It’s unbelievable.  It is called the Blue Butterfly Pea Flower Tea or Blue Chai – a native of South East Asia and India. Its botanical name is Clitoria Ternatea.  If you ever want to make a lasting impression on your guests at a get-together, don’t forget to serve this incredibly beautiful tea!  Your guests will never stop talking about it!  Here are the reasons why:

Colour: As the name suggests, this tea has a beautiful azure colour, but changes to purple when lime or lemon juice is added to it. This is fantastic because it  gives you the flexibility to serve two different coloured teas and it also allows your guests  to have a choice of having it blue or purple (with or without lemon juice).   Have the lemon juice to hand when serving and add it if your guest requires it.  Can you imagine the  beauty of the two colours served in glasses at your event?

Taste: Blue Butterfly Pea Flower Tea has a mild, earthy taste and works well with mild honey. Because of its mildness, choose honey that will not overpower the taste of the tea.

Health Benefits:  Research has proven that this tea is packed with antioxidants and is said to have much higher antioxidant properties than vitamins C and E.  It’s an excellent drink for people with chronic fatigue conditions.  It protects the skin and prevents pre-mature aging and wrinkles. It is also said to promote good eyesight and clear vision among other benefits.

Other Uses and benefits: It’s fast becoming a blue food dye and is used in colouring puddings and syrupy sauces.  It acts as a detox for the body and improves the circulation of blood.

Serving Suggestion: Add about ½ -1 tsp of the flowers per cup and pour freshly boiled water on it.  Leave to steep for about 5 minutes or until desired colour is reached.  Serve hot or cold during your party (with or without lemon/lime) or as an after party drink with crackers or lighter biscuits or snacks.  Serve in glass tea cups or durable glass ware to show off the beautiful colours.
